Head Coach – Milt Guerreiro
Milt played club volleyball for the Lokahi Hawaiians coached by a former Olympian Pedro “Pete” Velasco for many years. His most notable season was in 1980 when he played in the USVBA Nationals in Portland, Oregon. When leaving Portland the Sunday morning after the Nationals, Mt. St. Helens erupted.
Milt’s coaching resume includes being the JV coach at Bellevue Christian High School for ten years (going to the 1A State Championships nine of those seasons), Head Coach at Mariner High School for two years, Assistant Coach at Northwest University, and currently the JV Coach at Eastside Catholic High School.
Milt coached at Northwest Juniors for four seasons and then spent two seasons at Northshore YMCA. Milt has since been with Rain City Volleyball Club for the last five years where his U-17 Lokahi team qualified for the Junior Olympic Championships in Dallas, Texas in 2008.
Always trying to keep up with the latest volleyball philosophies and techniques, Milt has attended the Jim McLaughlin Volleyball Camp, Gonzaga University Volleyball Camp, and the Western Washington University Volleyball Camp. Milt is currently working on his CAP II certification.
When not coaching volleyball he enjoys golfing, camping, and working around the house. Milt is currently a Lieutenant in the Burien Fire Dept and has been a firefighter for 31 years.

Assistant Coach – Jenny Freed
Jenny is a local girl; she graduated from Newport HS where she played 2 years of varsity volleyball. In those 2 years, she helped Newport put their first and only banner on the wall winning Kingco 3A for the first time. Her team also finished as high as 6th in state during those 2 years and she was named to 2nd Team All 3A Kingco. Jenny also played 3 years of club for Northwest Juniors. Although she got a late start playing, her dedication and passion for the sport got her selected to play on the 18’s National team when she was 16. During club her senior year her team took 3rd at the Junior Olympic Invitational.
Jenny then went on to play at Bellevue Community College where in her freshman year she led the Northern Division in service aces, 3rd overall in NWAACC. She was also named to 2nd Team All NWAACC and voted Athlete of the Quarter by BCC. In her sophomore year she was named Captain, MVP, Most Competitive, and 1st Team All Northern Division NWAACC and was the kills per game leader at the conference tournament. Bellevue placed 5th in NWAACC both years.
Jenny continues to play competitively indoors as well as outdoors. Most recently, Jenny was the Head Coach for Mt. Si High School’s C-Team in ‘06. She also was the Assistant Coach for NW Juniors 16’s National team for 2 years in 2005 and 2006. Jenny has coached numerous summer camps for NW Juniors and Nevillizms Inc. She is currently a Tier 1 Certified High School Official as well.

Head Coach and Club Director – Jessica Papell
This will be Jessica’s fifth year coaching at ITVC and her third year as club director. She is currently the assistant varsity coach at Eastside Catholic HS. Jessica grew up playing volleyball in Southern California where she won a CIF Championship for the Windward School and was named the CIF Player of the Year two years in a row. She played 6 years of club volleyball and earned a full scholarship to play at Oregon State University. She went on to be a four year starter and letter winner at OSU playing outside hitter and defensive specialist and made a trip to the NCAA tournament her senior year. She was selected to the Pac-10 All Academic team in 2000 and 2001.
Her coaching career began while at OSU where she coached and ran numerous camps and clinics for OSU Volleyball. She then moved back to Southern California where she was the head girls’ varsity coach at the Crossroads School, the head boys’ varsity coach at the Windward School, and head club coach at Beach Cities VBC. She has continued to return to OSU to work with the staff there and coach camps during the summer. She is now in her 7th year as a varsity coach and currently coaches with the Puget Sound Region High Performance Program where she works with the region’s top talent and represents the region in international competition. She continues to play competitive volleyball and competes in grass and sand tournaments during the summer.
Assistant Coach – Derek March
Derek March has lived in the Seattle area all his life and began playing volleyball at age 10. In 8th grade he led his team to the CYO championship and was the MVP of the team. From there he went on to play club for Northwest Juniors and Cascade Juniors throughout high school. After graduating he played mainly for Strike Force Volleyball Club where he earned multiple team MVP awards as a setter and libero. More recently he has been playing for Island Style, one of Seattle’s top mens teams, as well as the Riverview volleyball team in Portland, OR. Over the past few years Derek has collected numerous men’s 6s, reverse/coed and outdoor doubles titles.
Derek started coaching at the age of 13, leading his sister’s CYO team to the championships and a AAA berth in the league. He continued coaching, spending 6 years at Shorewood High School and Northwest Juniors Volleyball Club. He is currently the varsity assistant and statistician at Snohomish High School. He spent 7 years refereeing as well, becoming one of the top 5 rated referees on the Snohomish Board. During the few moments a week when he is not playing volleyball Derek enjoys playing soccer, racquetball or any other sport, or watching one of his 2,000 movies. He works for a software company in Bellevue. This will be Derek’s first year coaching with ITVC.

Head Coach- Lynn “Robe” Roberson
Robe played basketball as a college athlete and picked up the sport of volleyball during his last year of college. Later, while honing his teaching skills, he began to gather coaching momentum in the sport of volleyball at Walla Walla High School and Pasco High School. Soon after, he started Team Tenacity Volleyball Club in the Walla Walla and Tri- Cities areas. For three years, he was also Head Coach of Eisenhower Cadets, a 4A school in Yakima,WA. During summers, he was a volleyball coach / clinician at a number of University sponsored volleyball camps along the west coast. Robe too was a coach at Concordia University. For the next three years, Robe and his friends started an athletic training company based in Canada centered on sports-specific skills development for top-level athletes around the world.
Arriving in the Seattle area, Robe coached varsity Volleyball, Basketball, Track and Field, and Tennis at University Prep Academy for three years. Now employed as an administrator / Humanities teacher at Eastside Catholic, Robe returns to ITVC for a third year after a hugely successful season with the 16 Under Armour team who qualified for the Open division at the Junior Olympics under his tutelage.
For fun, Robe enjoys traveling and experiencing other cultures, playing music and just about anything athletic. His best trip so far was a trip to Africa last summer. He also spends a lot of time at his la casa on Alki beach, playing and training volleyball players who love “building rock hard legs and agility in the sand.”
Facts people wouldn’t guess about Robe: “I can’t swim (ask the Aussies), I love landscape design projects and I play the Drum Set (for real, not just in RockBand).”
Assistant Coach – Jessica Fleming
Jessica began playing volleyball as a freshman at the King’s Academy in Sunnyvale, CA. She was a letter winner in volleyball, basketball, softball, and track. During her junior year in college, she decided to walk-on to the volleyball team at TCU. After being chosen to compete as a libero with the team, she earned a full scholarship. While attending TCU, she began her coaching career working at camps and with the Texas Advantage Volleyball club. Following a move to the northwest, Jessica started a business as a Personal Trainer. In addition to helping people change their minds and bodies, she is currently the Head Varsity coach at the Bush School in Seattle. This will be her third season coaching at ITVC.

Head Coach and ITVC Strength and Conditioning Coach – Dr. Brooke Weitz
Brooke’s volleyball career began at age 10 and was highlighted by 4 consecutive state championship titles in high school where she earned All-State honors as a junior and senior. She then received a NCAA Division I scholarship to play at High Point University in North Carolina where she was a 4-year Millis Scholar Athlete and graduated Suma Cum Laude with all University Honors.
After college, Brooke coached high school volleyball and basketball at the University School of Nashville from 2001-2004. Brooke founded and coached a high school club team in Kenmore, Wa for the 2006-2007 season and is currently in her 3rd year of coaching with ITVC. In addition to coaching, Brooke has worked for the past 5 years as a certified personal trainer in lifestyle fitness, nutrition counseling, and sports optimization for individuals and groups in various athletic clubs throughout Seattle.
Brooke is a graduate of Bastyr University where she earned her medical degree and currently teaches body work and chiropracting to medical students. As a doctor, her focus in private practice is in sports medicine and sports optimization and is very excited to bring her passion for volleyball and whole body health to the ITVC players and families.
Assistant Coach – Zach Orcutt
Zach Orcutt comes to ITVC with a passion for the game of volleyball. He has played volleyball since he was in junior high and is excited about the opportunity to begin his volleyball coaching career with ITVC. Zach played basketball, football, and ran track and cross-country during high school. He was an amateur boxer in high school as well. While at college in Australia, Zach played club rugby for two years. Zach has coached basketball and football and is eager to transfer his enthusiasm for athletics to the ITVC program. His diverse sports background has given him many insights into what it takes to win as a team and improve oneself as an individual. Zach is currently a teacher in the Lake Washington School District and he is returning to ITVC for his second season with the club.

Head Coach – Tiffany Ross
This will be Tiffany’s fourth year coaching volleyball for ITVC and she is currently in her second season coaching volleyball at University Prep. She is a certified personal trainer and worked as a sports performance coach at Velocity upon graduating college. She is a firm believer that in order to succeed in athletics one must train not only physically but mentally as well. Her practices are organized and very challenging but being an athlete herself, she knows the importance of keeping the sport fun.
Tiffany grew up in Southern Oregon and attended Phoenix High school. She was a four-year varsity letter winner in volleyball, softball and basketball. In volleyball, Tiffany received first team all-conference honors her junior and senior year. She was named to the 1st team all state volleyball team as an outside hitter her senior year. She was also her team MVP and captain her junior and senior years. For softball, she received first team all conference honors all four years as well as player of the year honors her junior and senior year. Tiffany attended Villanova University on a full-ride softball scholarship but decided that she missed the Northwest and missed playing volleyball so she transferred to Seattle University for her junior and senior years where she then played volleyball for the Redhawks. Tiffany graduated from Seattle University in ‘07 with a BA in psychology and is now attending the University of Washington for her masters in teaching.
Assistant Coach – Melissa Mulick
Melissa grew up in Forest Grove, Oregon and began playing club volleyball at the age of 10. She was a varsity letter winner for 4 years in volleyball, 3 years in softball, and 1 year in track at Forest Grove High School. She received two first team and one second team all-conference honors in volleyball, as well as being voted team MVP her senior year as an outside hitter. She then competed collegiately at Seattle University where she received second team all GNAC honors and was selected the MVP her senior year as the team’s libero. She also received all-GNAC academic honors for the 2004, 2005, and 2006 seasons. Melissa began coaching in the Puget Sound Region during the 2005-2006 seasons as the head coach of NW Juniors 14 Storm, during which she received Coach of the Year honors from NW Juniors VBC. She continued through the 2006-2007 season as head coach of the NW Juniors 15 Thunder team. Melissa was the assistant coach of the ITVC 15’s team last year, and will continue this role in her 2nd year at ITVC.

Head Coach – Dave Plypick
Dave Plypick is entering his fifth season coaching with ITVC. He coached 16’s for 3 seasons and 14’s for the 2009 season and has been very successful with every team he has coached. He has also spent the last six seasons as the Head Varsity Volleyball Coach at Vashon Island High School. At Vashon, Coach Plypick has lead the team to top 3 league finishes every season he has spent there as well as one State Tournament appearance. Prior to Vashon HS, Coach Plypick spent 3 seasons at Foster High School where he took his team to the State Tournament two out of the three seasons he coached there. Coach Plypick has a strong reputation for turning programs around which is evident by his league finishes and state appearances with teams that hadn’t been nearly as successful in previous seasons. Coach Plypick is a 5-Time Nisqually League Coach of the Year award winner.
Assistant Coach – Katie Kelly
Katie attended Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle where she was a defensive specialist/outside hitter for 4 seasons. While there, her team earned berths to the WIAA State tournament, and during her senior season the Braves won the Metro Championship. Katie played 6 years of club; four of those spent competing with Spaceneedle Volleyball where her team traveled to Orlando, Florida for Junior Nationals and to Madrid, Spain for clinics with top rated coaches from Peru. Also, during high school, she refereed for four years through the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) and began her coaching career at Holy Rosary, Edmonds during her Junior and Senior years.
After high school Katie attended Montana State University on an academic scholarship. However, she realized that her passion for volleyball was definitely missing from her life. She then transferred to Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia and competed in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference where she was a four year starter as an outside hitter and libero for the Stormy Petrels. At OU she went on to earn Rookie of the Year honors, was a two time MVP selection, and was chosen as the defensive player of the year. Katie was also voted team captain for her junior and senior seasons. She currently holds the career records in both digs and digs per game, is fifth in service aces per game, and holds the individual season high for digs at Oglethorpe University. In the SCAC she is currently #2 for career digs, #3 for career digs per game and is #8 and #9 for single season digs per game.
After graduating with her degree in History, Katie moved back to Seattle and immediately began coaching at Summit High School where she coached for two seasons and at Our Lady of Fatima in Magnolia. She currently works for the South Snohomish Historical Society at the Edmonds Museum as the assistant to the director. She loves continuing to play, coach, and wants to pass on her love of the game. This is Katie’s first year coaching for ITVC.

Head Coach – Kristen Urdahl
Kristen grew up in Spokane, WA and began playing club volleyball at the age of 11. She played on teams that qualified for Junior Olympics 5 times and competed in Junior Olympic Volleyball twice. She was a 3-year letter winner in volleyball, earning second team all league honors her junior year and first team all league her senior year; as well as helping her team to second place in the state tournament her senior year. She was also team captain and MVP both her junior and senior years and was named ‘female athlete of the year’ her senior year. She then competed collegiately for Western Washington University where she played on two teams that made it to the NCAA post-season tournament. She was 8th in the nation in assists per game her junior year and received second team all GNAC honors her senior year.
Kristen has experience coaching during WWU volleyball camps and other volleyball camps between the years of 2001-2006. She also coached a U-15 team for Bellingham Volleyball club during the 2005-2006 season. Kristen currently holds two personal training certificates through American Council on Exercise and National Academy of Sports Medicine as well as her degree in Exercise and Sports Science. This will be Kristen’s 2nd year coaching with ITVC.
Assistant Coach – Shelby Herrick
Shelby began playing volleyball in middle school for MGVA, a club in McMinnville, OR. She continued on to play for McMinnville High School for 4 years. She played at the varsity level her junior and senior years. She was named MVP and team captain her senior year, as well as being awarded first team all league honors, first team all News Register honors, and female athlete of the year. She continued to play club volleyball throughout high school for Salem Volleyball Club.
Shelby graduated from Oregon State University in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in residential design. During her college years she played on intramural teams at OSU and assisted with volleyball camps during the summer at McMinnville High School.
Currently she is the head coach of the freshman team at Bishop Blanchet High School. Last year she was the assistant junior varsity coach there.
Shelby’s hobbies are traveling and volleyball. Presently she plays for a womens team and a coed team. She also takes every opportunity to play beach volleyball in the summer. This is Shelby’s first year with ITVC.

Head Coach – Tori Ross
Tori is returning for her third season coaching at ITVC. Tori attended Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle where she set for the Varsity team for three seasons. While there from 2001-2005, her team placed 5th in State for two years and won the State Tournament her senior year. Tori received the Coach’s Award in her 2004 season and was selected to the All-State Team. She played club for 4 years at Washington Volleyball Academy and played her last year with Seattle Puma. Tori was recruited to play at Seattle University and set for three years with the Redhawks. While on the team at SU, she helped to run all of the volleyball camps that were put on by head coach, Shannon Ellis. Tori is currently working in Investor Relations after graduating from Seattle U in June, 2009 with a degree in Marketing.
Assistant Coach – Jake Putnam
Jake Putnam first began playing competitive indoor volleyball in 1996. He has played 13 consecutive years of men’s USAV club volleyball, including one year with the University of Washington’s Men’s Club Volleyball team. The highlights of his indoor career include representing the Puget Sound Region at the Adult National tournaments over the past four years. Throughout those years he has played a wide variety of positions ranging from outside hitter to setter but now plays mostly libero. Jake has also been very involved in outdoor doubles tournaments since 1997. He has won many tournaments ranging over different formats; grass and sand, doubles and fours, co-ed and men’s. He has also organized and hosted numerous outdoor doubles tournaments over the past 5 years. His coaching experience includes assisting the Overlake High School varsity girls’ volleyball team when they reached tri-districts and were one game away from State in 2004. He is currently the head coach of the Mercer Island High School JV team. He assisted Jessica Papell as the 18 Under Armour assistant coach in 2008 and 2009.
Assistant Coach – Alex Thorkildsen
Alex Thorkildsen is new to ITVC and has a diverse athletic background. He participated in many competitive organized sports as a young man, and then focused on football, baseball, and track during High School.
He then attended Western Washington University where he began playing competitive volleyball. In 2004 as a freshmen at WWU he made the Western Men’s Club Team. He traveled to Nationals with the team that year and started and played in every match. He continued to play with the club team, as well as on various USAV teams throughout his college career until he graduated in 2008.
Throughout college, Alex became active in coaching and worked with both soccer and track teams. He enjoys coaching because of his desire to see athletes develop and succeed throughout the season. Creating a healthy, competitive mind-set is one of the basics Alex sees youth needing in order to succeed in athletics as well as in life.
Alex is currently testing to become a firefighter in the Greater Puget Sound Area. His goals for the year are simple… Stay healthy and get to Nationals.

Head Coach – Paulette Hoffman
Paulette Hoffman will be returning for her third season with ITVC. She began her coaching career at Bellevue Christian School and she has coached the junior varsity volleyball team there for 13 years. She has been teaching middle school math at Bellevue Christian for 19 years. She competed collegiately for Northwest University in Kirkland for three seasons. Last year her ITVC 12 Under Armour team was very successful and was consistently one of the top teams in the region throughout the season.
Assistant Coach – Jessica Cabales
Jessica Cabales started playing volleyball in at Tillicum Middle School in an after-school athletics program. She then played for Sammamish High School in Bellevue where she was a 3 year letterman in Volleyball as a setter as well as in Fastpitch Softball. She began her coaching career directly out of high school as the Head JV/ Assistant Varsity coach for the Sammamish High School Fastpitch Program.
While attending the University of Washington to pursue a degree in German Language and Literature, Jessica continued to coach fastpitch at Sammamish and play volleyball. She played Volleyball in multiple local tournaments and intramurals.
Today, Jessica is at Sammamish High School as the C-team Volleyball coach and the Head Varsity Girls Fastpitch coach. Over her 13 year coaching career, she has also coached multiple little league and all-star teams, working with ages 7-18. This will be her first year with ITVC.
Setting Coach – Stacey Dozono
Stacey Dozono first started playing volleyball 20 years ago. She was a three sport varsity athlete in high school, lettering in volleyball, basketball and softball. After earning first team all-conference honors as a setter, she walked on at MIT. She was a four-year starting setter, helping her team to a first place finish in the Eastern College Athletic Conference as a freshman. As a sophomore, after earning a berth to the NCAA tournament, she received honors as first-team all –NEW8 conference and was selected as an American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Regional All-Star. She finished her career at MIT a three-time first-team all-conference selection, her senior year as the conference player of the year.
After receiving a biology degree from MIT, Stacey entered the Japan Exchange and Teaching program and moved to Okayama, Japan where she taught junior high English and worked with the volleyball and basketball teams.
Stacey is currently the assistant varsity volleyball coach at Roosevelt High School where she has coached for 6 years. She has continued to play competitively on a USAV women’s team and in local tournaments and leagues. In her time outside of volleyball, Stacey works in a pediatric oncology research lab at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
