Jake Putnam
Head Coach: 15 BLACK
Jake hails from Federal Way, WA and is the head coach for the ITVC 15 Black team. His 14 Asics team finished 3rd in the PSR’s U14 Power League last season and won the NW Jrs. MLK tournament. Jake’s coaching career has placed him among various high school programs around the greater Seattle area including stints as an assistant coach at Overlake and Mercer Island. He is currently the head coach at Garfield High School of the Kingco 4A conference.
Jake describes his love for volleyball as “borderline obsessive”. In addition to coaching, he competes as an adult player both indoors and outdoors. In 2009 he won a Co-Ed doubles title at Lakefair. His playing career began in 1993, which also led to competing for the men’s club team at the University of Washington.
Jake’s coaching philosophy includes a lot of guidance for his players, especially in working to strengthen their fundamentals. He believes in his athletes competing in practice for their playing time. One of Jake’s greatest assets as a coach is helping athletes to not only meet their expectations, but exceed them every season. He places great emphasis in team dynamics and helping his athletes to translate those to real-life social skills and work ethic.
Jake graduated from Federal Way High School and went on to earn a degree in Psychology from the University of Washington in 2000. Jake completed law school in 2007 at Seattle University. He is an avid skier and Seattle sports fan.
