Katie Kelly

Head Coach: 12 BLACK

Katie returns to ITVC for another season as the head coach of our 12 Black team.  Her energy, enthusiasm and volleyball knowledge is a great match for helping to build a strong foundation among ITVC’s youngest athletes.  Katie has a total of nine years of coaching experience behind her, most recently with ITVC and as an assistant coach at Edmonds Community College during the 2011 season.

Katie played volleyball locally in high school at Bishop Blanchet, at which she helped the Braves to the 2001 Metro League championship while earning individual accolades from The Seattle Times for her efforts.  She went on to compete collegiately at Oglethorpe University (Atlanta, GA), where she had a stellar four-year career.  In 2003, she was named the team’s “Rookie of the Year”, followed by three years being selected as “Defensive Player of the Year” from 2004-06.  Katie was awarded the OU team “MVP” in both 2004 and 2005, and was selected as team captain for the 2005 and 2006 seasons.  Katie left Oglethorpe #3 in career digs per game and #4 in career digs for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.  In 2003, she was also named to the “All Tournament” team at the Cumberland University tournament.  Katie graduated from Oglethorpe with a B.S. in History.

Katie’s coaching philosophy includes the following: “A team consists of individuals who come together to accomplish a goal. In order to achieve success on the court players must come to practice with a game mentality; one plays the way one practices. As a coach, my job is to provide players with tools to assist in making decisions on and off the court. The game of volleyball involves more than just skill. By creating a positive setting, I allow players to procure mental toughness, while assisting each member of the team to become committed to victory. Victory includes, but is not limited to: good sportsmanship, open communication, selflessness, discipline, and leadership. Most importantly, my foundation is built upon having fun while learning to succeed within a team setting.”

ITVC is excited to have Katie on staff for another exciting year for our U12 athletes!
